Fascinating, winter dormant Aroids from Asia with exotic looking leaves which, with good growth and feeding, can become quite large in some species. If cooled, as naturally occurs in our climate, then they become dormant in winter and can be dry stored in frost free conditions for restarting the following May.
They are reported as hardy in areas such as California and their occurrence in parts of the Himalayas at up to 2,500m in altitude suggests that they would do well as garden plants in many other areas.
All species like a rich, well-drained but moisture-retentive compost, loam-based is ideal but ericaceous composts can be used also. If you can give lots of heat, feeding and water then this makes for large plants and fabulously exotic looking leaves. The flowers, rather the spathes (as these are Aroids) are smaller and whilst not unattractive, they are not the major feature of the plants. As with ALL Aroids, Remusatia should not be eaten or ingested.
